 Work Travel Essentials

work travel essentials

As a seasoned traveler for work, I’ve learned firsthand the importance of being prepared and stylish while on the go. Whether it’s a quick trip day or a longer overnight trip, having the right gear can make all the difference in ensuring a smooth and successful business trip. In this post, I’ll share my top work travel essentials that blend efficiency, comfort, and style seamlessly.

Travel Gear

Efficient travel starts with the right luggage. Opt for a durable, lightweight suitcase with ample compartments and easy maneuverability. Look for features like expandable sections for extra storage space. Personally, I swear by my trusty carry-on spinner suitcase – it’s compact enough to fit in overhead compartments yet spacious enough to hold all my essentials.

A versatile tote bag is a must-have for any business traveler. Choose one that’s roomy enough to hold your laptop, documents, and other essentials, yet stylish enough to transition seamlessly from the airport to the boardroom. Look for features like padded laptop compartments, multiple pockets for organization, and durable yet chic materials like leather or nylon. Bonus points if it has a sleeve to attach to your suitcase handle for easy transport through busy terminals. I’ve had my Lo and Sons OMG bag for almost 10 years and LOVE it.  You can read a full review of it here.  In fact I love it so much I will be updating it this year with a fresh one.

Travel Outfit

Every businesswoman needs a go-to business suit that exudes confidence and professionalism. Opt for a well-tailored suit in a classic color like black, navy, or charcoal gray. Choose wrinkle-resistant fabrics with a hint of stretch for maximum comfort during long flights or days packed with meetings. My go to business suit to travel in is the MM LaFleur Colby Pant and Moreland Jacket.  The material is an oragami tech and travels so well.  It’s wrinkle resistant, feels like athleisure and is polished. And it’s machine washable!  I’ve washed mine at home several times (cold, delicate cycle, line dry) and it comes out perfect every time.

I also always travel with my MM LaFleur Morandi Sweater.  Its a crowd favorite and I’m stopped in the airport every time I wear it find out where it from.  It’s the ultimate travel piece.  I often wear it as my coat in the winter as its slightly oversized and can fit over any outfit comfortably, including a blazer.  It look beyond polished and is so cozy.  They no longer sell it, but you can find it on MM Second Act, which is a resale shop for MM pieces.  I have a size xs/s and its fits size 10 and under nicely.

Comfortable shoes are non-negotiable when it comes to work travel. Look for stylish yet supportive flats like the Rothy’s  Square Toe Flat or low-heeled pumps that can take you from the airport to the boardroom without missing a beat. Bonus points if they’re slip-on for easy removal during security screenings.

Overnight Essentials

Streamline your packing process by investing in a toiletry bag that is prepacked with all your essentials and ready to go.  I use this toiletry bag and have everything I need it in.  All I do is pull it out and throw it in my bag.  Repacking it every trip is a waste of time, having it ready to go saves time and reduces my stress about packing.  It has everything it in like my razor, travel sized hair products, soap, tooth brush and tooth paste, Tylenol, brushes and combs.

I also have one set of matching pjs for overnight trips.  I always pack my Printfresh Sleep Set. I love matching pajamas because I still feel put together in my sleep.  Additionally I feel prepared if I have to leave a hotel in the middle of the night for an emergency.  Yes, I think of these things.

Other Essentials

In today’s digital age, staying connected is essential for business travelers. Pack a tech case with a charger, airpods and traditional headphones.  I’ve been on so many different airlines and the audio hookup is different on each one.  I also have a water bottle that I carry with me.  I have to stay hydrated when traveling to avoid headaches.

In conclusion, efficient work travel is all about striking the perfect balance between functionality, comfort, and style. By investing in the right gear – from luggage and tote bags to business suits and comfortable shoes – you can streamline your travel experience and arrive at your destination ready to conquer whatever challenges come your way. So pack your bags, hit the road, and embrace the adventure that comes with being a modern, jet-setting businesswoman. Safe travels!
