Tan-Luxe The Butter Self Tanning Cream Review

If I could go back 20 years and tell my younger self one piece of advice it would be to use more self tanner and stay out of the sun.  I’ll admit I loved getting a natural tan back in the day.  And while I still love the sunshine on my body I don’t love the damage that it does.  Finding a self tanner that is effective, looks natural and doesn’t involve a lot of intensive labor is truly an art these days.  But don’t fear I’ve put in the research for you all and found the best self tanning cream around.  It’s the Tan-Luxe The Butter and it’s amazing!

Tan-Luxe is its own brand that brought to life the customizable tan.  With 20+ products they have something for everyone.  Their products are grouped so they are easily shoppable.  You can shop by products (water, drops, creams or mousse) or color results (light/medium, medium/dark, instant and gradual).  My preference is to shop by color results which is why I selected The Butter.

It provides gradual results over 2-4 hours, is easy to use for beginners and provides a  4-in-1 treat that illuminates, hydrates, perfects, and replenishes.

 

Tips For Applying Self Tanning Cream

Using Tan-Luxe The Butter is pretty fool proof, but I always like to share my tips that have given me the best application with my self tanning cream.

• Apply fresh out of shower with freshly shaved legs
• Apply powder on your knees, elbows (inside and out), wrists and ankle to ensure these areas don’t soak up to much cream
• Mix the Tan Luxe Butter with your everyday lotion for an even more natural look.  I prefer a 2 to 1 ration with a normal lotion to Tan Lux Butter
• I apply to the largest part of my limb first and finish with the sensitive areas like knees, elbows and ankle.  This will allow less cream to get on those areas and cause them not to get to dark
• Wash hands immediately after applying, scrub your nail beds and in between your fingers

 

I noticed that my tan develop overnight.  The website says it takes 2-4 hours to develop and that is pretty accurate.  I wake up looking sun-kissed!  One other thing I need to mention is the scent.  I’m not a big fan of tanning lotion scents, they smell gross. This self tanning cream has a slight scent when using the lotion alone.  Its not full on tanning cream smell, it’s a mix of strawberries and tanning cream smell.  I have used creams that smell 100 times worse.  When you mix the tan lux butter with your normal lotion the smell is just about non existent. 

And finally lets talk about how long this tan lasts and if it rubs off.  I have white sheets and white bath towels so I am fairly certain I am qualified to let you know if it rubs off.  The cream doesn’t rub off on my sheets at night.  I feel confident getting into by bed after I have applied it.

The bath towels tell a slightly different story.  I can see a small tan tint to the towels when I rub an area hard.  I tend to air dry a lot, but if I really dry my leg off I can see a slight tint on the towel.  It all comes out in the wash though, so it’s not a big deal.
