Sweater weather is here and I couldn’t be more excited. As soon as the temps dip into the 60’s I’m busting out my coziest sweater. Anyone else? My sweater collection is one in which I am very proud. I search for the ideal sweater each year and if I’m lucky I find a couple. I keep them in my collection and add on the next year.
Sweaters For Fall
The true sign of a classic sweater is when brands bring back the exact same sweater or a slight variation of it year after year. And I can proudly say that many of my sweaters fall into this category. To keep my sweaters in perfect condition year after year I take really good care of them. Here are my tips.
- Wash every other wear if possible
- Dry clean if you are in doubt about washing it
- Fold your sweaters flat in a drawer, never hang them
- Removing pilling with a sweater stone, not an electronic device
- Steam, never iron your sweater
The Perfect Sweater
So how do you find the perfect sweater when there are a million choices? You stick with the classics. The classics include fit, style and color. For example a camel color sweater will be in style for years to come, where a fuchsia sweater might fade away in a year or two. You also want to focus on style. While I’m obsessed with puff sleeves right now, I’m not buying a puff sleeve sweater because it might not be in style next year.
Here are my tips for selecting a timeless sweater:
- Colors – Stick with creams, greys, blacks or camel colors
- Style – Stick with crew necks, v-necks and turtlenecks for staple sweaters
- Fit – Get a healthy mix of semi fitted and oversized, both will always be in style
