I associate summer with one main event…summer vacation! Whether you are taking a long weekend trip or jumping into a full week away you have to have the perfect travel outfit. The ideal summer travel outfit is one that you wear on a travel day and repeat it once during your vacation. This helps save room in the suitcase and allows you to travel in style. I also have one rule about your travel outfit and it’s an unpopular opinion…no sweats when traveling.
Summer Travel Outfit
Yes, it’s true, I believe you shouldn’t travel in a sweat suit. I know, it’s comfy and can sometimes be stylish, but travel should be glamorous and your outfit should match that vibe. When I travel by air I always dress up. Obviously if it’s work travel I’m dressed up, but for personal travel I’m dressed up too. In the summer I prefer to wear a dress so I can be comfortable while looking polished. Plus my travel outfit can be worn at my destination too! Yes, I re-wear my clothes on travel and in my daily life too.
Dress
My workwear dress has all the attributes I’m looking for in a travel dress.

- Linen fabric which is breathable on a hot summer day
- Versatility – can be worn as a dress (casually or dressed up) and a beach coverup
Shoes
Sandals are my choice of travel shoe and this sport sandal is perfect for doing all sorts of touristy things on vacation. I love the comfort of these sandals, all the straps are adjustable so no matter how swollen your feet get they will fit you. I can wear these around town and to the beach.
Purse
The bigger the purse the better! I usually bring a large tote on the plane when traveling. A large tote is basically another carryon! Since you are allowed one personal item you might as well make it a giant tote bag. My cactus triangle tote is appropriately large and perfect for travel. I can fit so much in the bag for me and the kids! I love that it is 100% leather and super soft and flexible. It only has one internal pocket so you may want to pack it with pouches to keep things organized. I usually do, so it’s an easy bag to transition to for traveling.
Sling
One thing I typically don’t have multiple of when traveling is purses. I find it to be a waste of space to pack a purse for each outfit. Instead I use my tote bag and wear a travel sling. The sling is perfect for the travel essentials like an ID, boarding pass, hotel keys and phone. You can wear the sling across your body and avoid going in and out of your tote when traveling. When you arrive at your destination you now have a large tote and a smaller sling. Those are really the only two purse options you need.
