Today I’m sharing a key piece for the summer with you…the summer sweater! I’m sure you are thinking I’m losing my mind. I mean who wears a sweater in the summer? I promise you the the summer sweater is an essential part of your wardrobe. Unlike the heavy winter sweater which is designed to keep you warm, the summer sweater is lightweight and easily transportable. Meaning you can throw it in your purse or beach bag to have on hand should the temperature drop. It’s also meant to keep you warm in the freezing air conditioning. Have you ever been grocery shopping in the summer? Hello Antarctica! Those vegetable may have frost on them it’s so cold in there. Or how about a movie theater? Does the freezing temp cause you to buy more popcorn or something? Sometimes the air conditioning in the summer is just too cold. It’s so hard to adjust from being outside in 90+ temps and coming inside to 65 bone chilling degrees. The summer sweater helps make the shift in temperature an easy one.

The summer sweater is also perfect for a rooftop restaurant, eating outside or a late night at the beach. It’s also great if you are always freezing like me. It can be 90 degrees out and the second the sun goes down or the wind blows slightly I’m freezing. My body temperature changes quickly and I want to be prepared for it all at a moments notice.

You can also style the summer sweater in so many ways. Tie it around your waist for a casual look or throw it over your shoulders for a super preppy look. It makes a great cover up at the beach with your swimsuit and a pair of denim shorts (I love this pair, this pair and this pair (even though they aren’t denim)). It can also be the top layer to a cute summer dress. My favorites this season are this one at old navy (it’s a total steal!), this one from Nordstrom (you can dress it up or down) and this one from Madewell (everyone needs a classic black and white striped dress this summer)

I’m featuring two summer sweaters that I absolutely love from the LOFT. The best part is they are under $60 and go on sale often. I went shopping on the first warm day this year and came home with sweaters. It’s kind of funny, but being a born and raised Chicago gal I’m conditioned to keep warm year round! This short sleeve summer sweater is my favorite, I’ve been wearing it non stop. It’s perfect to throw on over a tank. I also love this bell sleeve summer sweater. The bar back detail on this summer sweater makes it to die for!

Oh and we snapped these pictures on our recent weekend getaway to Grand Rapid. It’s a quick drive from Chicago and an adorable city, with some great shopping and restaurants. We have friends in the area so it’s nice to get up there to see them. I fell in love with the blue pedestrian bridge in the pictures below, the color was amazing and made for great photos!
