Keep Your Jewelry Current For Under $25

rocksbox

These days there is a subscription service for just about everything from wine to clothes.  I’ve tried a couple of them and usually end up not finding a lot of value in the service.  While I love to receive packages in the mail, the $75 wine of the month club is only fun when you can keep up with drinking the wine.  However, I recently discovered the perfect monthly subscription service, where the price is right,  the product is approachable and the functionality of the process is clear and fits into my life.  It’s the ultimate jewelry subscription service… Rocksbox.

Rocksbox is a subscription-based jewelry service that provides its members with curated boxes of multiple pieces selected by the member for a small fee.  The company was founded by Meaghan Rose who saw a need in the marketplace amongst women to simplify the jewelry shopping process.  She has an impressive resume complete with an education from an Ivy League school. She is one impressive entrepreneur!   The best companies are created when the founder sees a need for something that doesn’t yet exist.

Now that you know a little bit about the service and the company lets talk about how the process works and what I like and don’t like about the service.

HOW IT WORKS

Step One

Sign up for a Rockbox monthly subscription here.  Use code latereverafterxoxo at checkout to receive your first month free!

Step Two

Answer some style-based questions.  Here you will be able to note your preference for jewelry.  For example I noted that I didn’t wear rings in this section.

Step Three

Add items to your wishlist.  Your wishlist will provide your personal stylist with suggestions on what to provide in your box.  Your wishlist, combined with your responses to the personal-style Q&A, provides a profile of you, which then determines what goes into your box.

WHAT I LIKED

Test Driving The Goods

I was able to try out different pieces that I normally wouldn’t wear or buy.  Take these Kendra Scott earrings, for example. I’d been eyeing them for a long time now.  I’ve put them in my cart at every Nordstrom sale for the past couple of years, but couldn’t ever finish the transaction.  For starters, I have never worn a non-stud earring in my entire life.  With Rocksbox I was able to test out the earring and see if I really liked them.

Option To Buy At Any Time

You have the option to purchase a piece, or all the pieces, you received at any time.  If you choose to purchase the item they will simply apply your monthly subscription fee to the purchase price and charge you the remaining amount.  If you choose to keep all three items you will receive a discount on the price!  Not a bad deal at all.

Ease of Service

Your package will come in a reusable envelope with a return shipping label included.  When you are ready to turn in your box simply package the items back in the box and envelope and drop it in the mail.  The best part is shipping is on them!

No Set Timeline

As a girl who doesn’t follow conventional Life Timelinesbeing able to move at my own pace with this service was a huge plus.  I was able to keep the jewelry as long or as short of a time period that I wanted.

Access To Sale Items

As a member of Rocksbox you receive access to sales items that you can rarely get access to at retail stores.  I’m talking about discounts on brands like Gorjana (I love their Fan Necklace, the Quinn Necklace and the Power Gemstone Studs)

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE

Borrowing The Items

I know it makes no sense since the whole premise of the service is to borrow jewelry.  But lately I’ve been having problems with earrings and I’ve been losing a bunch of them.  I’ll leave the house with the full pair and return home with just one. It’s crazy!  Wearing the earring that came in my box was a bit worrisome as I didn’t want to lose a borrowed pair of earrings.  Knock on wood, I haven’t lost one yet!

Quantity Each Month

With three pieces I felt a bit limited, and I wish I was able to have five choices each month.  I feel that five different pieces would provide me with a lot of options for multiple occasions.  With three options, if I immediately don’t like one of them I am down to two and feel like I missed out.

Return Policy

You must return all items at the same time, unless you opt to purchase something.  This was kind of a bummer for me because I would fall in love with one item and want to return the others, but I couldn’t without purchasing it.  If I had the option to swap out pieces without returning everything I would have liked that better.

THINGS TO POINT OUT

Discounts Vary On Purchase Price

As I mentioned above you can purchase any of the items you receive at anytime.  Some of the items are actually discounted with a members only price, but some are not.  For example I recently received these Kendra Scott Earrings, which I fell in love with.  My purchase price from Rocksbox was the same as the retail price.

Your Wish Might Not Be Fulfilled

During the sign up process you add items to your wishlist.  This list provides your stylist with ideas to fill up your box each month.  While they will do everything they possibly can to grant your wish, the item may simply not be available.

FINAL VERDICT

You all know I love a good list as they help me make decisions.  Based on my pros/cons list of Rocksbox I’ve decided it’s a great subscription service and worth the monthly fee.  Thumbs up for the ultimate jewelry subscription service Rocksbox.
