Hello Friends!  I’m sure today’s post is going to shock a lot of you.  Today I’m sharing why I’m not sending out picture Christmas cards and why I’m sending out traditional cards.  It will shock you all for a couple reasons.  First I’m a blogger and take tons of photos all year long. Second I just had a baby and should be showing off my family.

You all know I’m a late bloomer (and love it), but what you may not know is I don’t easily jump on a bandwagon.  If I do jump onto a trend it takes a lot of convincing and I need to decide when its right for me.   Most likely there is also a pro/con list involved.

One trend I’m not jumping into is the family picture Christmas card.  I noticed in the last few years that people have gotten away from sending traditional holiday cards and opting for photo cards.  These cards usually feature at least one family photo and a brief typeface holiday greeting or sometimes just a word like PEACE.  They are slid into gorgeous envelopes with pre-populated addresses.

In fact, I typically only receive traditional cards from older people or single people.  It’s just how it works now in society.  In my single years I always sent traditional cards.  I did it because I wanted to and it would have also been weird to send a picture of just myself.  When I married Mike we kept the tradition going. And that was a shock to a lot of people.

Traditional Christmas Cards

I’ve always sent traditional Christmas cards because I truly enjoy sending a personalized note to each person.  I know how exciting it is to receive a personalized note in the mail.  And I want other people to feel that excitement too.  So if I can help bring excitement to someone then that makes me happy!

To me Christmas is about the season of giving, sharing and receiving.  I want to give the gift of words and share warm wishes with the people I love.  I feel that writing a note in a traditional card is the best way I can do that.

And I’ll be honest, have no desire to organize photos, outfits or order cards to get the picture Christmas card out the door on time.  That involves a lot of work and running around.  I’d much rather take a quite hour or two while listening to Christmas tunes and writing notes.

Sending traditional Christmas cards is my tradition and one I plan to do for many years to come!
