Olive & June Mani System Review

One of the hottest “internet products” of 2020 was the Olive & June Mani System, which is an at home manicure set.  I literally couldn’t get away from the ads and people talking about it.  With lock downs running strong due to COVID, getting to the nail salon wasn’t happening (and still isn’t), so many people turned to doing it at home.  I was curious, was it worth the hype?

 

After conducting a very scientific IG poll it was a stalemate with 50% saying it was worth it and 50% saying it wasn’t.  So I reached out to the brand and they generously sent me the Mani System along with a few nail polishes to test out for myself.   And I’m going to share my full review with you today.

So what is inside the box and is it good?  First, the box it comes in is super sturdy and great for storage.  It has a phone holder, which is cute, but not particularly practical in use.  The tools you receive come in a pink bag that zips shut.  Here is what is inside.

What is nice is that everything is in one place.  Even though I own some of these items already it was nice to have them all in the same place and all fresh and new.  It’s also nice to have a cute bag and box to store everything in.  My previous setup was a hodgepodge of items in all different locations around my bathroom.

 

The Mani 

There are only 5 steps to the mani and when I initially read the directions I literally thought, “who would buy this?”  There was nothing earth shattering about the directions and they actually left out a few steps I’m used to doing, like trimming my cutilies and using a base coat.  However I fully committed to this and was going to follow the steps regardless of what my previous experience was.

 

The moment I realized why people buy this was when I started to paint my nails.  The Poppy is life changing.  You can comfortably hold the nail polish and paint with a steady hand.  The other aha moment was the actual nail polish.  It has a flat brush, not a round brush like most polishes have, and this is amazing.  It glides across your nail perfectly!  I could actually fill in my whole nail in one stroke.  

 

The other MVP of this set is the Clean Up Brush.  I’ve never had one of these, I’ve only seen them in the salon.  This tool is key for cleaning up your nails.  I actually paint nails like an 8 year old and have polish all over my skin.  So this tool is super easy to use to clean up the tight areas around your cuticles.  

 

Overall Grade

After fully reading and using the system I can say that I give it an A!  It’s not just genius marketing from Olive & June, it’s a solid product that actually works.  They so nicely put together all the tools we’ve been using for years and included simple instructions to create the perfect at home mani.  I give them major credit for reengineering some of the tools and making them super easy to use.  Now if they could teach me to paint my nails better than an 8 year old I’d give them an A+!
