I wore my first blazer when I was 9, it was navy with paisley cuffed sleeves and a small crest on the right chest. It was love at first wear and from that moment on a blazer was a key piece in my wardrobe. I most likely was the only 9 year old wearing a blazer, but I loved the look and versatility of it even at that age. Today my love for a blazer or a little jacket is as strong as ever. My closet is chock-full of the ones I’ve collected over the years.
Like most of you, I’m still hanging onto my most prized blazer that I just don’t have the heart to get rid of. It’s a beauty, circa fall 2009 from the Gap. It’s navy, with cuffed sleeves and large gold buttons and it reminds me of that blazer I wore when I was 9. You might be asking why does she have a blazer from 2009 and how does she know its from 2009? Well friends I worked at the Gap for 12 years when I was younger and they actually write the season and year on all their tags. Go ahead, take a look if you have something from the Gap, it’s a fun little fact.
Now back to blazers. The reason I love them so much and have tons of them is because the blazer is a piece that can be worn as a jacket or as your actual outfit. It instantly dresses up a t-shirt or a blouse while adding a touch of sophistication. And it also provides a warm layer on a cool fall day. Over the years I’ve accumulated a small collection of blazers and today I am sharing my top 3 favorite blazers this season.
Key Piece Review Blazers
J. Crew Regent Blazer
The J. Crew Regent Blazer is a closet staple and a key piece. I bought this blazer a couple of years ago because a friend of mine had it and I loved it on her. It was a bit pricey, but I knew it was an investment piece. It’s been a few years since I purchased it and I can’t believe the use I get out of it. It literally looks good with everything. It’s perfect with jeans on the weekend or thrown on over a dress for a work meeting. What I love about this blazer is how perfectly fitted it is, it’s slightly longer in the torso, and has a popped collar, which differentiates it from a traditional blazer. You can easily get away with this blazer as a jacket on a cooler fall day or it can be worn as your actual outfit in the winter and will fit under a coat.
Jardigan MM LaFleur
My go to work blazer, this “jardigan” takes the stuffiness out of the traditional blazer. It’s designed for working women, with the structure of a jacket and the softness of a cardigan, hence the name jardigan. It comes in a beautiful knit material that is wrinkle resistant. I own this in a couple colors; black and taupe and I get a lot of use out of each. I mainly wear it for work and it instantly enhances any dress and makes me feel like a million bucks. I haven’t worn a traditional pant or skirt suit for work in years because this jacket is just as dressy and formal as the former.
Ann Taylor – Black and White Jacket
This technically isn’t a blazer, but I had to include it because I love it so much. The open tweed jacket from Ann Taylor is the chicest piece they are offering this season. Its classic in black and white and reminds me of classic Chanel jacket. The majority of the jacket is white tweed and it’s the perfect white for Fall and Winter and can easily be worn into Spring. The black detail on the jacket is the perfect amount of contrast making the jacket pop. This can also be worn on the weekend and at work for a classic look. I would style it with minimal jewelry and let the jacket speak for itself.
What are your go to blazers to wear and why do you love them? I’m always in the market for another blazer to add to my collection. Regent

I have to say the Ann Taylor one draws my attention. It is such a classic and give a boost to your outfit. I became a lawyer when I was 23 and everybody was expecting for me to wear a blazer. Everyday of my life. But I could not. I was against them because I had to wear them. Most of the time I was only wearing shirts and a wool coat also in the winter. Two years ago when I started working in the Netherlands where people are more practical and less fashionable, I started to embrace this item :))))
A lawyer at 23, what a wonderful accomplishment! I’m glad you started to embrace the blazer, its truly a key piece.
