J.Crew Winter Coat: Cocoon Coat Review

A gal can never have too many coats, especially J.Crew winter coats.  With all the different weights, lengths and styles out there it is hard to pick just one.  I usually make up a specific reason why I need a coat. You all do it too. For example, “This is the coat I’m going to wear to run errands on days when it’s between 30-40 degrees outside.  Anything colder and I’m putting on the puffer.” 

 

What if I told you I found the one coat that puts all my excuses to shame?  This one J Crew Winter and Fall coat serves several purposes and can be worn for any of my made up reasons.  It’s the J.Crew Cocoon Coat and it’s a cult classic! They have been making it for years and each season they tweak something, like the pockets or colors, and roll it out for all to enjoy.  The Factory Store even came out with a version called the City Coat, and it’s equally as perfect!

 

If you don’t already have this J.Crew winter coat, you will want to get your hands on one this season.  The best part is this J.Crew winter coat is always included in J.Crew sales, so you can score this puppy for 40% off during certain sales.  I warn you though, buy it soon, as it will sell out and you’ll have to wait until next year to get it.

 

You may notice that every blogger, and I mean every blogger, owns this jacket.  It might be part of the uniform, but I believe it’s just loved that much. It’s classic, chic and super warm.  But that’s not it, here are all the reasons I love this coat.

 

Warmth

 

The J.Crew Cocoon Coat and the J.Crew Factory City Coat are super warm.  They are made of stadium-cloth wool and nylon and are super warm on cold winter days. You can even wear it fully zipped up with a scarf wrapped around the outside of the jacket to bundle it up even more.

 

Since it’s a wool coat I wear mine open on warmer days and sometimes pair it with a long oversized scarf hanging around my neck.  I love this plaid scarf and the way it pairs perfectly with the camel color coat. The pockets are placed in the right place to allow your hands to naturally fit tucked inside.  I keep my hands tucked in when I forget gloves or need to use my phone.

 

If you are looking for an even warmer, but similar style you should check out the summit parka.  It’s a similar shape, has all the lux details and includes a faux fur lined hood, which is so cute!

 

Style

Th cocoon shape makes it a great fit for every body type.  It’s a straight fit, but a bit relaxed. It allows us gals with hips to feel comfortable and stylish in the coat.  I hate when a coat hugs my hips and rear end and makes me feel like a stuffed sausage.  I don’t have that problem in this coat.

 

The details on this coat are subtle and chic. Take the gold zipper, for example. I find it to be so lux!  It really dresses up this coat and adds a level of sophistication. I pay attention to the details on coats and a gold zipper takes it to the next level.  

 

Both the J.Crew Cocoon Coat and the J.Crew Factory City Coat come in at least 6 colors, and each coat has some colors unique to it.  That’s a lot of options! I prefer this coat in any color other than black. While I love a black coat, I think this particular one pops in the bright colors.  I own the camel color and love it to death. It goes with brown or black and can be worn day or night. I also love the green and red colors.

 

If you don’t yet have a color coat, get this one in a bright, fun color.  Trust me, you won’t be upset with your purchase.

 

How To Wear

 

The main reason I love this J.Crew winter coat is for versatility.  Dressed-up or dressed-down you will look great in this coat.  There are three ways I wear this coat.

1. Weekend Days – Throw on your favorite jeans (Everlane has the best jeans right now) a cotton turtleneck,  flats and a scarf and you are set to get your errands done.
2. Weekend Nights – Pair it with head to toe black; black jeans, black turtleneck, and black booties (this pair is my current favorite). Nothing looks more chic than black and camel together.
3. Weekday to Work – A great commuting coat as well.  You can throw it over your dress, tights and booties to look instantly office ready.

 

Needless to say this J.Crew winter coat be the only coat you need this winter….in multiple colors of course 🙂
