What is more exciting than picking out the perfect gift for someone? Wrapping it in the most beautiful way! I actually love wrapping presents more than giving presents. I’m a sucker for good packing from a brand or a person. A nicely wrapped present shows how important the gift inside and the person receiving the gift is.
Having coordinated wrapping is my favorite Christmas decoration. When the wrapping paper matches the bow and gift tag it gives me chills. I know it sounds geeky, but perfecting the outside of the package is a true art form and one I’ve been working on for years. My secret…a beautiful bow! The kind of bow that is so perfect you don’t even want to open the present up. Now that is what the holiday spirit is all about, the perfect bow.
How To Tie The Perfect Bow
Now that you know my secret to the perfect present I’m going to share my secret on how to tie the perfect bow. It’s double sided satin ribbon, you cannot go wrong with a double sided satin ribbon, it’s gorgeous! I used it for our wedding and it put a luxe touch on everything. Buy a standard color that you can use year round and a traditional Christmas color. I have silver and green on hand at all times. The best double sided satin ribbon can be found at Ribbon Bazaar.
Step One:
Drape the ribbon on the front of the box down the middle. Keep one end of the ribbon slightly shorter than the other.
Step Two:
While keeping your thumb on the ribbon, wrap the long side completely around the box bringing it to the front side of the box.
Step Three:
Cross the two pieces in the front of the box and rotate the long end on a 45 degree angle
Step Four:
Wrap the long end under and around the box bringing it to the top
Step Five:
While holding the short end tight bring the long end across the center of the box
Step Six:
Tuck the long end under the the crossed ribbon and create a bunny ear
Step Seven:
With the remaining slack from the long end creating another bunny ear. The shorter ribbon will be left hanging to the side.
Step Eight:
Tie the bunny ears in a knot
Step Nine:
Fluff up the bow and straighten it so it looks perfect!
Step Ten:
Snip the ends of the ribbon to shorten them.
And now you have the perfect bow for your present. When it is untied it falls open beautifully. Be prepared to get a ton of complements on the bow, its a guaranteed crowd favorite.
Wrapping Paper
Now that you have mastered the bow you need a good base to wrap your present in. Above I used simple Craft Paper, which I technically use year round on presents. For the holidays I do love to add a bit of Christmas cheer to the package and use traditional paper. I’ve selected some of my favorite prints that are available this year for wrapping paper.
