Holiday Party Outfits

holiday party outfits

The holidays are in full swing and so it dressing up for them!  I’ve been getting a ton of questions about what to wear to holiday parties. And based on your questions I know that holiday party outfits are not one size fits all either.  There are so many different types of parties to attend and dress for.

Based on your feedback, I’ve rounded up the most popular type of holiday party outfits and curated a few outfits for each event for you.  I’m a bit limited in my choice of clothes these days given my growing baby bump  so I’ve created story boards to show you options for different holiday party outfits.  Each story board provides you with options for a dressed-up option, or a more casual option.  And I’ve made it easy for you too, as all the boards below are shop-able.  Simply click on the picture and you’ll be taken right to the item. The best part is all items are interchangeable so you can mix and match and just have fun.

Before we get to the story boards I want to share my 5 Tips for creating the best holiday party outfits.

  1. Statement jewelry is always a good idea, but only wear one statement piece at a time.
  2. Sparkly heels can dress up any outfit, even jeans.
  3. Carry a clutch vs. an oversized tote or everyday bag, you will instantly feel dressed up!
  4. Holiday fabrics that never go out of style include velvet, silk and plaid.
  5. Don’t forget a pop of color, whether it’s your shoes, purse or jewelry – rock a bold color.

Holiday Party at a Friend’s Home

One of my favorite holiday gatherings is one at a friend’s house.  I’ve curated two looks for this type of event using similar items.  Both tops are bodysuits, as I love bodysuits! They offer a sleek tight look that always looks polished.  Don’t worry if you aren’t thin as a stick, because any body type can wear one. What is important is the confidence you wear with it!  In terms of bottoms you can always wear jeans and still look dressed up. When wearing a bodysuit I’d go for a higher waisted jean vs. a low rise.  I also love the option of the animal print skirt. It’s a bit outside the box and unexpected.

For accessories you can never go wrong with a statement earring or necklace.  Pick one or the other and never wear a statement necklace with a statement earring.  You will want your bold piece to speak for itself. For shoes I’d opt for a heel. I know booties and boots are all the rage, but a sparkly heel never goes out of style.   I’ll admit I have a go-to pair in my closet that I wear during the holidays. If you select a classic pair they will last you for years.

Holiday Office Party

The office party is often the most difficult party to navigate for a couple reasons such as the venue and the time of the party.  For my work party it starts immediately after work around 4pm on a weeknight. I need to have a day to night look that is office appropriate and holiday ready at the drop of a hat.  I usually go with a classic look, something that I would normally wear to work and dress it up a bit with statement jewelry.

If your work party is a on a weekend night you should step it up a notch and wear a more formal dress. Think of it as a mini wedding or gala that you attend.  I would highly suggest a jumpsuit for this type of party. Jumpsuits can be formal and elegant just like an evening dress. If you are looking for more formal outfits you will want to check out my post on how to dress for a black tie event.

Holiday Brunch

The holiday brunch with family or friends is becoming a super popular option for celebrating.  It’s a bit more casual and a less stressful type of event. My favorite foods are served at holiday brunches; quiche, mimosas, hot dips and cookies!  When heading over to a friends for brunch don’t forget the hostess gift. You can find some great ideas for hostess gifts in my recent post, here

Curious what I’m wearing to all the holiday parties this year?  I’m wearing the Amanda Dress from my favorite brand MM LaFleur.  I featured it in my Office Party Board above because I’ve been wearing it non stop in the office.  I recently teamed up with them to show you how to wear non-maternity clothes throughout your pregnancy.  You can see the first post here and the second post here.  This dress is by far my favorite right now, it’s made of a thick knit and makes me feel like a million bucks.  It’s truly an investment piece, but one you will have for years.

Enjoy the holiday season and let me know what your go-to holiday party outfits are in the comments below!
