Ok ladies this is a get your butt in gear post, with fabulous fashion mixed in so get ready for it.  Today I’m talking about getting out of your comfort zone.  So tell me, when is the last time you actually got out of your comfort zone? It can be anything big or small, as long as it really got your heart pumping and made you get outside of your box.  Now how did that experience make you feel? How big was the risk you took? And finally what did you learn from the experience?

Getting out of your comfort zone is one topic I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. And one brand in particular really jump started my thoughts in this regard.  The brand is Sela Fit.  They are a Chicago based, woman-founded athletic apparel line that promotes body positivity. They believe in celebrating the unparalleled strength and beauty of the female body. After all, with every curve comes a journey worth taking and a story worth telling.  They have sizing for all women from XS to 3X. It’s an amazing brand and one I can really get behind.

Body positivity and creating a welcome community for all women is one of the main missions of Sela Fit.  Turns out that promoting body positivity leads to personal growth and development which pushes you outside your comfort zone and gives you the ability to try new things and grow as a person.  All this from an athletic brand. How cool is that?

Given this is a fitness post let’s first focus on getting out of your comfort zone when it comes to working out.  My personal fitness journey has been one in the making for many years now. I was blessed (or cursed) with good genes in my younger years and didn’t have to start working out to stay in shape until I was 32.  It’s pretty hard to get into a fitness routine when you are older because it’s hard work and it doesn’t come naturally. I struggled to find something I loved for years and then I found Pure Barre and fell in love with the workout.  I now consistently go every morning at 6am and truly look forward to going.

Getting out of your comfort zone means pushing yourself into a new routine.  I’m not an expert, but with these few tips you too will be getting out of your comfort zone when it comes to working out.

Just Start

The more you think about it, the more excuses you will have to not do it.  Start slow and then build up. I used to hate running (and still do on some days), but I always wanted to be a person who ran along the lakefront.  So I started small. I went for a walk one day and over time I picked up the pace and started running. It’s now one of my favorite weekend activities and you can’t beat the views.

Try a New Workout Class

I personally believe there is no better way to push yourself than to be publicly shamed.  Yes, I said publicly shamed. Signing up for a class is the perfect way to push yourself. I take Pure Barre every morning and my goal is out plank the girl next to me.  Sounds silly, but I’m highly competitive and always try to win. Now the girl next to me has no idea what I’m doing, but it motivates me to work harder. There are days I don’t out plank her, and that’s ok. Because I’ll still race the stranger on the street walking to work 🙂

Embrace What You Have

Learn to love your body and embrace it.  I’ve talked a lot about working out to stay in shape, but lets face it my rear end is never getting any smaller and I’m ok with that.  Sure I have to buy a bigger size to accommodate it, but that’s ok. The size doesn’t matter. Because it’s how you feel when you look in the mirror that really matters.

Love Your Workout Wardrobe

Dress good, do good. That’s my moto.  If you love what you are wearing, you will feel confident in whatever task you need to accomplish. And this stands true for working out too.   Picking workout clothes that feel good and look good are a winning combination. Which brings me to the outfit I’m featuring in this post.

The Everything Leggings

These leggings are high waisted and made with compression material, which gives you a secure feeling when working out.  While your body may shake and jiggle as you workout, these leggings give you a little extra support. Not to mention that I have vein issues so compression material is an extra bonus for my leg health.  Sizing on these runs true to leggings from Athleta, Gap and LuLu. I’m in a medium.

The One & Only Bra

A bra that offers secure support through any activity is important to me.  Whether I’m running or at Pure Barre I want my girls tucked away and secure.  This bra offers amazing coverage and support for any activity. They are sized in small, medium and so on.  I’m wearing a medium and feel comfortable in them.

Twisted Crop

Having my top stay in place when working out is super important.  I hate when I have to tug at my top and pull it down. That’s so annoying! The twisted crop tank literally solves all the tugging problems and stays in place when planking, squatting or running.  I also love the cute twist detail on the back of the top.

So grab yourself some cute clothes, get out there and start and have fun with it.  Breaking free of your comfort zone is a good thing!
