What To Wear On The Weekends

Finding clothes to wear on the weekend is usually a hard task for me.  I spend the majority of my time shopping for work clothes, so more casual clothes takes a back seat. I love shopping for work clothes, especially dresses  as it comes naturally to me. However, I truly struggle to shop for more casual clothes for the weekend.  When I do find something I love for the weekend it’s usually on repeat and for a good reason, I love it.

The struggle that I have with weekend clothes is I want to be comfortable, but I don’t want to look comfortable.  I want to look stylish, but not like I’m trying too hard.  And I want something that will be perfect for running errands or brunching and also relaxing on the couch.  The other thing is I’ll only wear jeans on the weekend, I don’t do leggings (unless under a dress) or workout pants.  I know you are thinking this girl has to be crazy (and you may be right), however it’s just what I do.  It dates back to my college rule “Dress Good and I’ll Do Good”.

Another weekend rule I have is to downsize the purse.  I absolutely love my Burberry Bag  partly because it’s beautiful and partly because I worked so hard to save for it.  However, my shoulder and back can not lug around the weight for hours on end.  The purse search isn’t anywhere near as difficult as the outfit search, thank God.  I quickly settled on this J. Crew Signet Bag in a mustard color, which is the perfect fall color.  The purse has an adorable lock and key on it, that actually works.  This small bag packs a lot of punch, it can hold a ton of stuff and still feel like air.  I love to wear it crossbody or just on one shoulder.

Now onto easy outfits to wear on the weekends.  With all of these looks I’ve paired them with my  7 For All Mankind b(air) jeans.  I seriously need to get another pair of these because I live in them, literally.  They are high waisted and have the perfect amount of stretch.  They are also super dark, which is great for the fall or winter. Come spring and summer I’ll lighten up my denim options.

In my first look I’ve found a neutral color top in a soft gray.  This Threadlight Layering Tee from Athleta is a closet essential.  You can wear it alone as I have here, or layer it under a sweater or lightweight jacket.  This top is made from an ultra soft modal material and feels like butter on the skin.  The longer length of the top and slits on the sides offer enough detail to take this from a plain tee shirt to acceptable streetwear.  It also comes in multiple colors to give you plenty of choices.  In fact, I still may pick up a black and white one because they are such a great top.  I’ve paired the top with a scarf, it’s old and one of my favorites, but I’ve linked some other current favorites below.

Now let’s talk about these shoes, the Sam Edelman Chelsea bootie. They are the most comfortable bootie I’ve ever worn.  I live in downtown Chicago and my main mode of transportation is my feet.  My feet need to be comfortable as I walk miles, literally, on any given weekend.  I don’t want to forgo style though and that’s why these booties are so great.  I have to admit though, mine are from last season, but there are equally as great colors this year.

With my second look I’ve slipped back into a old habit…a black top.  I’ve been trying hard to break this habit, but sometimes I just can’t shake it.  I do love this Lush top though, it lays perfectly on the body and has just the right amount of flow.  The sleeves roll up with a button closure which spices up the top.

These shoes offer the perfect pop to any outfit. I can’t get enough of them!  Leopard print is really in right now, but I’ve been wearing animal prints for years.  Who doesn’t love animal print?

Last, but not least, the only turtleneck you need this season, J. Crew’s Tissue Turtleneck.  It’s a cult classic and it’s on its tenth year as a fan favorite.  Since its debut in 2007, this turtleneck has been on repeat in women’s wardrobes and it’s on repeat in mine now!  What I love about this turtleneck is the softness, lightweight fabric and perfect neck.  It has plenty of material to be worn a little messy and scrunched, but can also be worn folded down for a more structured look.  Perfect to throw on with jeans alone or paired with a leather jacket.

For shoes I’ve gone with my Tory Burch Minnie Travel Flat.  These flats are just as stylish as the classic Reva Flat, but ten times more comfortable.  They actually fold in half for easy travel, which means they are made out of super soft leather that moves with you on every step you take.  If you own the Reva flat and haven’t upgraded to the Minnie yet, you should.

What I love about these easy outfits to wear on the weekend is the pieces are all closet staples and all reasonably priced.  You can wear these all season long and layer them up in the colder months.  What are your favorite go to weekend outfits?  I’d love to hear, I’m always looking for new ideas.
