Outfit Details:
Weekend I can see you and you look so good! This week has been long, but in a good way. We moved into our new condo about a month ago and we are still getting settled in. Moving is no joke! We have one room left to paint and get ready. I feel like it will never end. When life gets a little hectic I like to know that one task will always be easy. Like picking an easy fall outfit to wear.
Over the past year I’ve been trying to simplify that small task every day. I did it for work clothes a few months back by creating 5 work outfits with 5 pieces in my closet and it changed my life. I also did it by crafting the perfect brunch outfit time and time again. And I’m doing it again with a quick formula for an easy fall outfit.
The formula is easy, but there is a little prep work involved. If you are like me, I love finding new uses for old things. Accomplishing this task starts when you are buying the pieces. This is the prep work I was talking about. You need to buy classic staples that are in season over and over again. Now, you can still buy trendy items, but limit those and put your money behind the classic staples. You will thank yourself later.
Take stripes for example. It’s a classic staple that is worn season after season. I’ve been wearing a striped tee since I was in the fifth grade! In fairness, I buy a new one every season because I wear mine to death. My current favorites, at all price points are linked here.

My closet is packed full of cozy sweaters that I live in during the fall. One trend that has been around for years is open cardigans. I wore my J. Crew sweater blazer to death last fall and winter. While it was a splurge for me I definitely got my use out of it. In fact, I bought a black and khaki one…do you see a pattern here? If I love something I buy it in multiple colors. And the good news is, they have the sweater blazer again this season and in even more colors! I may be picking up the red one this year. It’s a great red and perfect for the holidays.
I also stock my closet with more price conscious pieces that are easy on the wallet. Opt for a classic style though, nothing overly trendy or in a crazy color. This way you can wear it multiple seasons and get your money’s worth out of it. Last year I lived in my Leith Open Circle Cardigan and guess what, they have it again this year! I simply refreshed my color pallet in a blush and have already starting wearing it. My current favorites are linked for you. I own the budget and the splurge option, and both are worth it!

Pairing stripes and an open cardigan is a classic way to look put together in seconds! I love this easy fall outfit look because stripes make me feel very European and put together instantly. I can wear a striped shirt alone or layer it up with a sweater, like I did with this outfit. The open cardigan adds a warm layer for a chilly fall day and can act as my coat. I secretly hate wearing coats because I get so hot so quickly and always feel like I need to get my coat off right away. The open cardigan acts as my coat on milder days.
Throw this combo together with your favorite jeans. I know you all have jeans in your closet. In fact, I bet you all have about eight pairs. I know I do. I’ve been investing in high quality denim for years now. I find that they wear very good and I get multiple years wear out of them. My favorite pairs are below. The budget pair I’ve listed is my new favorite. I’ve been living in the Everlane Authentic Stretch Denim for weeks now. So comfortable and such a great fit!

Finish off this easy fall outfit with your favorite bootie and you are done. This year I cleaned out my shoes and freshened them up with a few new booties. I don’t buy new shoes every season…shocking I know. Living in a condo sometimes limits my space so I try to curb my shoe addiction to one new pair a season, but I usually make myself throw out an old pair first. I did a full post on my favorite booties this season, check it out here . My top picks this season, at all price points, are linked below.

Did you see how easy that was? The formula for an easy fall outfit is…
