Dyson Vacuum Review
There is something that happens to all of us in life, we grow up! But we grow up in a way that will shock you. It’s the way we seek excitement and joy. One day excitement is hanging out with friends grabbing drinks and the next day excitement is vacuuming your house with your new Dyson Vacuum…oh how things change!
I’ve always been an old soul and I’ve always taken pride in cleaning my house. In fact in my 20’s I would clean the house top to bottom and enjoy a glass of wine after on a Friday night. Nerd! For the most part I would clean my hardwood floors on my hands and knees because I didn’t want to damage the floor. However I longed for the day I could quickly do it with a vacuum. A Dyson Vacuum to be exact.
A Dyson Vacuum was the ultimate adult purchase, it cost a small mortgage payment and it was something I wasn’t willing to purchase at the time, but always longed for. Well the time has come and I finally got my dream purchase at 40 and it’s so good! I love this vacuum and can’t believe I waited this long to have one.
I’m pretty sure that if you are reading this post you share my love for a clean home and can’t wait to hear my Dyson vacuum review. Before we go on, I need to let you know this is an investment purchase. While Dyson has a ton of models to choose from, they are all pretty darn expensive, for a vacuum. But they are so worth it! After a lot of research, I went with the Dyson V8 Absolute Pro and I’m so happy I did because it fits my lifestyle perfectly.
To date this is the best adult purchase I have ever made, period.
The joy this vacuum brings me is a bit insane, but it’s so easy to vacuum the house with it. Overall I would give the vacuum a 10 out of 10 and I will break down each feature I love about it in this Dyson vacuum review. In terms of pricing, it is expensive and it is an investment. It retails for $499, but you can grab it on sale occasionally, if you check frequently for it.
I picked mine up on sale and saved about $150. I did buy it directly from Dyson though, as it was the best deal at the time. You can sometimes pick it up on Amazon or Macy’s. When searching for it be careful because they have an Absolute model and an Animal Model, these words will confuse you when searching for the vacuum. And keep reading to see why the Absolute model offers the most versatility.
Features
The main reason I went with the Dyson V8 Absolute Pro was the ability to clean both carpets and hardwood floors with the vacuum. The majority of my home is hardwood floors, but I have several area rugs. And the messiest part of the house is the kitchen. I swear there is always food on the floor. Passing the vacuum once in that room at the end of the day sets my mind at ease.
There are two different heads to clean the hardwood floors and the carpet, but it takes two seconds to switch them out thanks to the genius design. It’s as easy as pressing a button to switch out each attachment. And there are 9 attachment options, giving you endless areas and crevices to clean.
Attachment Options
Yes, I said 9 attachment options. My favorite is the soft roller head which allows me to clean the hardwood floors quickly in my home. The other attachments are equally exciting though. Let’s explore all of them in this Dyson vacuum review!
- Soft Roller Cleaner Head – Engineered with soft woven nylon and anti-static carbon fiber, for hard floors
- Direct Drive Cleaner Head – Powerful direct-drive cleaner head removes ground-in dirt from carpets
- Mini Motorized Tool – Motorized brush bar tackles hair and ground-in dirt, in tight spaces and furniture
- Mini Soft Dusting Brush – With soft nylon bristles to clean delicate surfaces and fabrics
- Combination Tool – Two tools in one – brush and wide nozzle. For simple switching between tasks
- Stubborn Dirt Brush – Stiff nylon bristles dislodge stubborn dirt from floors and furniture.
- Crevice Tool – Designed for precise cleaning around edges and narrow gaps.
- Mattress Tool – Removes dust and dirt from upholstery and the floor
- Up Top Adaptor – Twists and locks at different angles to clean high-up areas of your home
You can literally clean everything with this vacuum as the attachment options are expansive.
Docking Station
There is one downside in my Dyson vacuum review. When you store it, it charges, which means it has to be close to a plug. While I knew this when I purchased the vacuum I technically had nowhere to store it by a plug that was going to be easy to access. My option was under the bed and it probably would have been a pain to get it out each time.
Thanks to Mike we added an outlet in our storage closet and hung the vacuum in there. I did upgrade the docking station that it came with though. I opted for something like this one as I could store all the attachments on it. It worked perfectly with the docking station and charger that came with the vacuum. This additional storage was ideal to keep everything in one spot.
No-Touch Bin Emptying
You will be amazed at how much dust and dirt the vacuum sucks up. I run the vacuum on days when I think it’s not that dirty and there is always something in the bin. Emptying the bin is beyond easy. You simply pull up on the bin and it pops open and the dirt falls out. I will say that sometimes I need to grab lingering hairs out of it though. I shed like a dog and I’m sure any gal out there can relate.
Battery Life
Given this is a cordless vacuum you are limited on the amount of time you can vacuum. The Dyson V8 Absolute Pro holds a 40 minute charge at regular power. There is a max power option and using that reduces your battery life. I rarely use the max power feature as the suction on the regular setting is pretty intense.
The vacuum has three lights on it to notify you of your power level and how much run time you have left. Three bars mean it is fully charged and when you get down to one bar you have about 10 minutes left. I have never run out of power using it, but I’m super efficient when I use it.
Dyson Vs. Other Vacuums
In my life I’ve owned three vacuums. A Dirt Devil, a Shark and the Dyson. By far the Dyson is my favorite. And I can say it is worth every penny I paid for it! The biggest selling feature is it being cordless. There is nothing more magical than running around the house sucking up dirt and dust and not having to worry about the cord or if it will reach far enough.
It’s also lightweight. I can easily operate it with one hand and can easily maneuver it all around the house. From cleaning the baseboards on the ground to lifting it up and cleaning the bathroom vent, it’s easy to operate. I can even vacuum and switch out attachments with one hand. Now that’s efficient!
Real Life
Realistically I use this vacuum every other day. While I love having dark hardwood floors I do not love cleaning them. They show every bit of dust and food crumbs. What they don’t show is my hair, which is all over the house. So having a vacuum that picks up everything is amazing!
Having it charge while storing is another amazing feature as the vacuum is always ready to go. I can quickly pick it up, clean up a small spot, like the kitchen floor and be done in a couple minutes. Using the vacuum isn’t a chore, it’s totally fun!
I also love the ability to take the vacuum anywhere with me. I live in a condo and park in a parking garage. So cleaning my car at home didn’t exist before I owned this vacuum. Now I can bring it down to my car and quickly clean it up. Using the various attachments allows me to get into all those little hard to reach areas.
My love for the Dyson V8 Absolute Pro runs strong and deep. This is by far one of my favorite purchases next to my home, of course. And Lizzie loves it too. I couldn’t resist and picked her up a toy one so she can play with it when I vacuum. Sadly the one I have for her is sold out, but this one is available still. And there will be no cute Lizzie vacuuming picks right now, she is currently terrified of the vacuum 🙂
