Daily Harvest Review

daily harvest review

You’ve all seen the ads on your social media feeds for Daily Harvest.  And I have to say the ads are good!  The food looks delicious and the smoothies look plentiful and fancy.  However is the product that good or is the marketing just that good?  It’s the age old question and one I’m happy to investigate for you all.

Every influencer I follow has a sponsored ad for Daily Harvest, which makes me skeptical, naturally.  Do they really love it or do they love the money associated with it?  Well, I jumped in and tried it for myself.  I signed up on my own and received zero compensation for this post.  I’ve actually been wanting to try it for a couple of years now and finally ran out of excuses.  I’ve been working from home for a year now and there is no time like the present to sign up for it. Here is my Daily Harvest review.

Sign Up Process

The sign up process was pretty straight forward, you can sign up before entering your credit card information, meaning you can look around before you committee to the products.  You do, however, have to enter in your shipping details, email address and select a plan type.  However, you can change this plan type once you start building your cart.  You aren’t locked in.

Plan Options

They offer several plan options that appear to be a good fit for all types of lifestyles. They consider them all weekly plan options, however I could easily make some of the plan options last for a month.  My goal is to provide a few snacks and meals a week for me and Mike to eat.  It breaks up the usual lunch options we have been eating forever.   Here are the plans they offer.

Weekly Plan

  • 6-8 Items
  • 9-11 Items
  • 12- 23 Items
  • 24-26 Items

The best part about Daily Harvest is you can pause the entire plan and it’s easy to locate this on the website.  I hate when I sign up for something and pausing it or canceling it is impossible.  That’s not the case with Daily Harvest, you can delay your shipment a week or pause your plan entirely.  My Daily Harvest Review gives it an A+ for this option!

I picked a 14 count plan for the week, however I knew I wasn’t going to use this all in one week.  Most importantly, I added options that both Mike and I would enjoy.

Cost

When you sign up for Daily Harvest you aren’t paying a set price for each plan.  You pay the price for each item.  This allows you flexibility to add smoothies, bowls or their other options without being constrained.    Below I’ve listed the pricing for each item so you can see how much a plan would cost.  You can see this pricing in your cart as well, so they are transparent.

  • Smoothies $7.99
  • Flatbreads $8.99
  • Breakfast Bowls $5.99
  • Harvest Bowls/Soups $7.99
  • Scoops (Pint of Ice Cream) $8.99
  • Bites $7.99
  • Lattes $7.99 for 3

At the end of the day I think the pricing is fair to slightly high.  If I bought all the ingredients myself to make these items I would probably end up spending a little bit less than their pricing per serving.  Furthermore, this is delivered right to your door and there is a premium associated with that.  You can also look for a coupon online for money off your first purchase.

Daily Harvest Feedback

oat bowl cinnamon + banana

I primarily stocked my plan with smoothies and oat bowls to fit my lifestyle and eating habits the best.  Each involved minimal effort to make.  However, I really struggled with the idea of getting out the blender and cleaning it the first time 🙂  Once I got over that it was smooth sailing.

Smoothies

Overall the smoothies were good.  I was surprised by the amount it actually made and can confirm that the smoothies make a ton!  I can fill the entire cup and have  a decent amount left over. Down below you can find my feedback on each one I’ve tried so far.  Some I loved and some I didn’t, it’s just a personal preference.

  • Pineapple + Matcha One – Not a fan of this one, the taste was not good
  • Tart Cherry + Raspberry – Good flavor, not very tart at all
  • Cold Brew + Almond – Great afternoon pick me up.  Tastes just like a cold brew coffee with the consistency of a frappuccino
  • Strawberry + Peach – Great flavor, tasty and healthy in a good fruit kind of way

Oat Bowls

You can have the oats cold or warm.  I tried both ways and I prefer the warm option.  In addition, I felt that the overnight oats (cold option) was a bit too soupy for me.  If you go with the overnight oats options I would cut down on the amount of milk you put in.  It calls for ½ cup and that is way too much for me.  Here are my thoughts on the bowls.

  • Apple + Cinnamon Oat Bowl – Great flavor, the perfect amount of sweet to balance out the oats.  I prefer this bowl hot with whole milk.
  • Banana + Cinnamon Oat Bowl – Delicious!  This is my favorite oat bowl.  Make this one hot for sure!

Daily Harvest Review Overall Grade

Drumroll please…I’m going to give it B.  Overall the service is well designed and easy to use with any lifestyle.  Although working from home has made it easier.  I need to note that I would not be able to take these items to the office to eat for breakfast or lunch.  The items and appliances needed to prep these aren’t truly office friendly.

It’s a healthy option for a light breakfast or afternoon snack.  However, I don’t feel that it’s a true meal though, but I love to eat a lot at each meal.  Some of the items were delicious while some weren’t.  Definitely read the descriptions of each item and make sure it sounds good.
