Fashion Details:
Hello friends! Today’s post is a how to and these are the posts I love to write the most. I find myself on Google or Pinterest all the time typing “How To…”, anyone else? I actually get a lot of great information that way. So in the spirit of sharing information today I’m sharing How To Wear Colorful Work Outfits.
If you’re new around here I’ll catch you up. I’m a full-time working mom that blogs on the side. Over the years I’ve invested in a lot of work clothes and recently discovered most of them are black. Black is my favorite color, if that is even allowed.
Black makes me feel skinny, polished, and chic. The rest of my look (like my hair and makeup) can look like garbage, but if I’m in all black it makes all the bad stuff disappears in the background. However, the problem with wearing is it can become boring and depressing.
Color
On the other hand, wearing colorful work outfits is exciting and fun. However, incorporating color into an all black wardrobe is a delicate process. You don’t want to go overboard and show up looking like mismatched chaos. You want to incorporate color properly. Which is why I’m sharing 5 simple tips for incorporating color into your wardrobe.
How to Incorporate Color Into Your Wardrobe
My tips are so easy that anyone can do it with items that you currently own. If you head into your closet I bet you have colorful work outfits that you already own and don’t utilize as often as you should So head to your closet as you read my tips.
Add A Colorful Accessory
Whether it’s a red clutch or a bright pink earring, accessories are your gateway into the world of color. Starting small gives you the ability to dip your toe into color. I’m positive that a little color goes a long way.
Put On A Vibrant Top
Take the black pants that you love (I’m living in this pair currently) add put on a bright color top. Stick with solid colors at first and then break out into colorful patterns.
Rock A Bold Shoe
You’ve heard of a statement necklace or earrings, it’s the same concept, but for your feet. Wearing a bold shoe puts a little pep in your step. I actually have a few pairs of statement shoes. The best part is they last forever since I don‘t wear them that often.
Use The New Neutrals
Think outside the box with color and move into the new neutrals. Think of greys, blushes and camel tones. These neutrals provide a break from black and bring safer colors into your wardrobe.
Stick To Primary Colors
There are three primary colors; red, yellow and blue. These are the colors that started it all and make all colors. Go with the classics and incorporate color by adding one of the above in a primary color.
I’ve decided to break into color using tip number 5. I’m breaking from black and adding red and blue to my wardrobe. I’ve chosen those colors for a couple of reasons.
Red
The first color I’m incorporating is red. I’m starting simple with this color and throwing on a shell under my suit. The top is sleeveless which allows me to layer it in the cooler months and wear it as is in the warmer months. Having multiple uses for pieces in your wardrobe make them work harder and longer for you.
Red is a beautiful color and it’s a power color! It’s the color to wear then you are trying to persuade or impress someone. Red is powerful and is often linked to excitement, courage and energy. I promise if you wear something red it will change your mindset and body language instantly.
Blue
Blue would not be my first choice of color. However I am sticking to primary colors and I’m glad I ventured out and took the risk. I normally don’t gravitate towards blue, but this shade of blue in this top is rich and lush.
So what does blue say? No not sadness, but rather it is the color of truth and wisdom. It is a stable color which translates into being a trustworthy person. Blue also is calming, it can settle down any situation and bring order to the situation.
