My favorite spring and summer look is jeans and a white t-shirt. You can’t get any more classic than this look. Over the years I’ve learned that all white t-shirts are not created equally. In fact, it is quite hard to find the best white t-shirt. And it can often feel like you are goldilocks looking for something just right. Well this year I’m doing all the research for you and bring you my style guide for the best white t-shirt. I’ve bought and tested eight of the most popular white t-shirts out there. All from brands that we know and love: Everlane, J.Crew, Abercrombie, and Amazon.
As a reference, I am typically a medium in all shirts. I do have a larger chest so I am focused on minimizing it, especially in a white t-shirt, and making sure everything is smooth and not lumpy. Coverage is also high on my list of wants in a perfect white t-shirt. I don’t want a super sheer fabric that is see through. And don’t get me wrong, I realize that all these t-shirts might blend together and look the same. However they are not all the same. Each one is completely different and you will see that through my descriptions. And there is a clear winner and loser for me and you will find that in my rating. So here we go!
Style Guide: The Best White T-Shirt
Hanes Classic Tee
Cost: $8
Sizing and Fit: I’m wearing a medium and it runs true to size
Likes: The cost, I mean what a deal! I also like that the neck is high and tight, it’s a true crew neck, which is great for layering necklaces. I also like the length. While I tucked it in for this photo the length is really great. It comes to the midway point on my hips. The chest sizing is also generous as it’s not pulling on my chest.
Dislikes: It feels like an $8 tee, I’m not sure how long it will hold up to multiple washes.

Everlane Organic Cotton Crew
Cost: $18
Sizing and Fit: I’m wearing a medium and it is true to size
Likes: The fabric is super soft, yet has structure. It has a feminine cut and highlights all my curves
Dislikes: It’s a little tight on my chest, you can see it pulling every so slightly. I’m not a fan of anything that pulls on my chest, I feel it draws attention to an area I’m trying to minimize. This tee is ideal for someone with a smaller chest.

Everlane Organic Box Cut Crew
Cost: $18
Sizing and Fit: I’m wearing a medium and it fits perfectly, so it’s true to size
Likes: The fabric is super soft and the cut is generous. Given that it is a box cut, it provides more room in the chest area, which I like. It isn’t pulling on my chest, yet accentuates the right areas.
Dislikes: The shirt is short in length, so I always have to wear it tucked in.

Abercrombie Knotted Crew Tee
Cost: $19
Sizing and Fit: I’m wearing a medium and it fits, however I would have liked to try it in a larger size to see if it was a tad bit longer.
Likes: I’m a little shocked that I liked this shirt. I’m usually not a front tie gal, but I think it’s so cute and switches things up for me. I actually prefer this t-shirt with shorts vs. jeans. It’s going to be a great white t-shirt for summer.
Dislikes: The front tie because you can’t wear this top untied. It’s cut to allow extra fabric in the front for the tie.

J.Crew Vintage Cotton V-neck
Cost: $29.50
Sizing and Fit: Runs true to size, I’m wearing a medium and it’s a perfect fit
Likes: The length of this shirt is on the longer side, so you can wear it tucked in or out and still look good. It is more fitted, but not overly tight.
Dislikes: Slightly sheer and shows my under garments. The V-neck isn’t super structured and I feel like it gets stretched out.

Sizing and Fit: Runs true to size, I’m wearing a medium
Likes: The v-neck isn’t overly low and doesn’t show to0 much. The material is super soft to the touch.
Dislikes: The shirt clings slightly to my undergarments, but it’s not tight on the rest of my body.

Abercrombie Drapy V-Neck Tee
Cost: $19
Sizing and Fit: Runs small, I’m wearing a medium and wish it was bigger
Likes: The material is soft and slinky, but is clingy.
Dislikes: The material is clingy and it literally shows every inch of your body. It was too small across my back and chest and clung to my bra.

J.Crew Vintage Scoop Neck
Cost: $29
Sizing and Fit: Runs true to size, I’m wearing a medium
Likes: There are so many things I love about this shirt. First up, the scoop neck, it’s super flattering. Second, the sleeve length is perfect. They are slightly longer and offer more coverage, which makes it timeless. I also love the material because it’s lightweight, but not sheer.
