Spring cleaning is in full effect over here. It’s probably more like summer cleaning at this point, but we are cleaning. I’ve cleaned out the clothes in my closet and organized a few of my other closets too. Next up is refreshing the bedroom. It’s time to switch things up with the bedding and decor.
I was beyond excited that I got to team up with Cozy Earth to bring you this post on my bedroom refresh. If you haven’t heard of Cozy Earth, let me start by saying their bedding was on Oprah’s 2018 Favorite Things list. And it’s obvious why it made the list.

You Get What You Pay For
Growing up my mom would always tell me you get what you pay for. This still hold true to this day. While I’ve known this for years I recently rediscovered this when buying clothes on Amazon (you can see what my favorite Amazon finds are in this post). If you buy a cute sweater for $18 you probably aren’t going to keep it for years as the quality isn’t that good. If you buy an $80 sweater you may have it longer because it’s a little better quality. Same holds true for sheets.
A set of sheets that cost $75 are probably good sheets that you can have for a couple years before they wear out. A higher quality sheet may cost significantly more, but they will probably hold up for a longer period of time. Sheets are the one thing that you literally use every single day no matter what. There aren’t too many material things that you can say that about. If you’re using them every day why not find the perfect set?
What Are Bamboo Sheets?
I always thought the quality of sheets depended on the thread count. The higher the count the better the sheet. While that is true, it’s not the only factor to consider when looking at sheets. It’s also the material from which the sheets are made. There’s cotton, Egyptian cotton and bamboo (which I recently learned about).
Bamboo sheets have so many amazing qualities that I need to share with you.
- Bamboo is temperature regulating which means whether you sleep hot or cold you will get a perfect night’s sleep every time.
- It is easy to wash and is stain resistant. That means Sunday breakfast in bed won’t cause you work later in the day to get the stains out of your sheets.
- Bamboo always has a cold spot on the sheets. No more searching around for a cold spot with your feet, just move them a little and the sheets are cool.
- The fabric is 100% viscose from bamboo fabric and has been tested for harmful chemicals.
- Bamboo is super soft and silky to the touch.
From the moment I took the sheets out of the package I knew it was going to be love at first sleep and I was right! Sleeping on the bamboo sheets was so enjoyable, it was like sleeping on a cloud. I noticed the temperature regulation quality that first night.
Mike and I have drastically different body temperatures. I’m constantly cold, yet omit a crazy amount of heat. I can never get enough covers on in bed. Mike on the other hand runs pretty steady and only needs a sheet and a light blanket when he sleeps no matter what season. However, he usually ends up sleeping with no covers because the heat coming off my body is so hot. The first night on the bamboo sheets we woke up and were both completely covered still. There were no body temperature issues that night, everyone was comfortable. It was a win for both of us!
Why You Should Have a Bamboo Comforter
I also switched out the comforter to the bamboo comforter. The bamboo comforter has a lot of similar qualities that the bamboo sheets have, but it also have a few more. These qualities include:
- The bamboo comforter has a thinner profile, but offers the same warmth as a heavy puffy comforter.
- It’s temperature regulating (just like the bamboo sheets). It significantly reduces humidity and won’t make you overheat.
- The bamboo comforter is filled with bamboo fabric and will never shift
- The fill is hypoallergenic, so you never feel itchy or sneezy
The biggest thing I noticed with the bamboo comforter is that it stayed on the bed all night. My previous comforter was large and thick and always ended up on the floor in the morning. It has to be the way we sleep and move our feet. But with the bamboo comforter it stayed in place all night!
Bedroom Decor
Part of my bedroom refresh included freshening up the decor. Yes, it looks sparse in the bedroom and while it is styled super clean for this post, I do keep a sparse house normally. I actually love having nothing on the dressers or furniture in the house. Mike on the other hand loves things out to make the house a home. We met in the middle when we got married and have a minimalistic approach to decor.
This minimalistic approach holds true in the bedroom too. It looks cleaner and means I don’t have to dust a ton of jolifiers. I love little dishes and trays, they build depth and offer a place to store books and odds and ends. Placing fresh flowers on these items really brightens up the room too. In the summer I pick up flowers every Saturday at the farmers market (if you’re in Chicago you’ll want to check out the top five farmers markets in my post found here).
And finally the artwork in the bedroom. It’s a work in progress right now and we only have something over the bed, but it’s something I love. The four framed photos are pictures we took on our trip to France. When we visited Mont St.Michel and toured the abbey, we noticed the gorgeous stained glass windows. We took pictures of them just because and later turned them into art in the bedroom. It’s a great daily reminder of that trip.
