As Seen On The Internet Product Reviews

as seen on the internet

And we are off!  2020 is off to a great start already.  I’ve been teasing at today’s post on social media and I’m so excited it is here.  Today I’m sharing my first (of hopefully more) As Seen On The Internet post!  We’ve all seen the products in our social media feeds and after the fifth time I’m thinking “should I buy this?  Are the As Seen On The Internet products really that good?”

Like all of you I fall victim to the ads on Instagram and Facebook.  They fill my feed daily and by the second or third day I’m truly contemplating buying the item.  In addition, I also follow a ton of bloggers and always want to try the clothes and products they talk about.  I am a bit of a skeptic, though.  When I see bloggers raving about products and I see #ad or #sponsored in the post I immediately stop and think “do they love it or did they get paid a ton to blog about that?”  Yes, even bloggers think this, it’s totally normal.

In fact sometimes I feel a bit over influenced.  I explored this topic last year in a post, you can read it here.

This is why I love today’s post.  I am putting all the items as seen on the internet to a test.  From the ads in my feeds to the products other bloggers are using I’m testing them all out for you.  In addition, I’m figuring out if they are really worth the hype and the money.  In today’s As Seen On The Internet post I’ve gone ahead and found the items that have filled my feed and other bloggers feeds and tried them out in real life. Keep reading to see my Kiss and Diss list for all the items as seen on the internet.

One thing to note on today’s post.  I paid for everything myself, no brand sponsored any of the items in the post or offered them for free in exchange for the review.  Therefore, this really is my honest review.

As Seen On The Internet Kiss List

Here is the Kiss List, the items that I truly love and recommend to all of you.  I should also note that I’ve already made several friend fans of these products too!  Here they are in no particular order.

Billie Razor

Seen On: Instagram Sponsored Ads

Cost: $9 initially for the razor and one replacement.  $9 for 4 replacement razors automatically shipped

Confession, I’ve had the same razor since I started shaving when I was a teenager.  No not the actual blade, but the hardware itself.  It has a bit of nostalgia for me and the razors work wonders.  However, They no longer make them (not surprised) so I had to find a replacement quick.  Therefore, when I saw the Billie Razor ads constantly for months I knew I should try it.

The packaging is super fun and makes receiving the item exiting.  The actual razor works really well.  It gives a super close shave that I could probably shave every other day.  I’m a daily shaver though, it’s just what I do.  For the price and the frequency, this product is a total good buy!  You can get your hands on it here.

Stitch Fix

Seen On: Facebook Sponsored Ads

Cost:  $20 styling fee that is charged for all orders.  If you end up keeping any item from your fix the styling fee will be applied towards your purchase.

This is a kiss list item only because it fared better against similar style concepts.  I’ve tried a lot of subscription clothing services that didn’t work out over the years.  The main reason I liked this one is because my stylist listened to me, when the others didn’t.  You complete a detailed questionnaire about your style and can pick what types of items you receive in your fix.  I didn’t need any pants so I opted to not receive any in my fix.

When your fix is sent to you it comes with a personalized note and mini style guide.  The style guide showed each piece several ways.  I really liked this part of the service.  This is where I could tell that my stylist understood what I was looking for.  The items in my box varied in price and were all pretty reasonable.  While I ended up keeping only one item from the fix I loved all of them.  A few of the items were too similar to what I already owned so I returned them.

This service is on my Kiss List for 2020.  For the price you can definitely try it and find something you like.  You can sign up for your Stitch Fix here.

Sheertex Tights

sheertex tights

Seen On: Instagram Sponsored Ads

Cost: Varies around $59

An indestructible tight?  I was hooked immediately! The ads I saw had puppies crawling all over a girl wearing these tights and not even one snag was on the tights.  How could this be?  I wear tights regularly and if I even look at them wrong they snag.  Seriously I go through at least 5 + pairs of tights a season.

The Sheertex tights are expensive, the pair I purchased was $59, they are opaque black tights.  Seems like a lot for tights. So are they worth it?  YES, without a doubt.  They are thicker and super high waisted, which I like because I feel sucked in.  They move with me and are ultra comfortable all day long.  I’m a huge fan.

When I posted the tights in my Instagram story Sheertex reached out and offered a discount code for my readers.  I couldn’t resist!  They are giving you $10 off your purchase with code LATEREVERAFTER10.  It is only valid on full price items.

Tula Rose and Glow

Cost: $30

Hook, line and sinker!  I was 100% influenced by Liz Adams of Hello Adams Family on this product.  She works with Tula frequently and raved about this product.  This magical tube instantly refreshes, cools and brightens my eyes in seconds.  EVERY woman needs this in her life, it’s a life saver!

Think of it as chapstick for under your eyes.  You can apply it before or after your makeup, I do it over my makeup.  It’s a quick pick me up!  I use it in the morning and in the middle of the day, when I need to be refreshed.  It’s the best $30 you can spend!  You can change your life with this product here.

Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer

revlon

Cost: $35

I’ve seen just about every blogger claim this is the best invention ever.  So clearly I had to try it for myself. For a bit of background I have super thick, semi curly/wavy hair.  When I wear my hair straight I have to blow dry it and use the straightner.  This dryer eliminates the straightner step and its great!  I probably safe 1/4 of the time on my hair.

You all were super vocal about this product on Instagram.  A lot of you loved it and offered some great tips on how to use it.  I took them into account and also listed them below.  The first time I used it I was skeptical given my hair texture and type.  I can say that I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome though!  My hair looked pretty good, not as good as when I get it professionally done, but pretty good.  I still have to practice a bit more before I go out in public after using it, however I’m on a good track.

Here are a few tips on using the brush:

  • The brush gets hot, quick, watch where you are putting your hands
  • Your hair needs to be 60-70% dry before using this tool, soaking wet hair will take way too long to dry fully
  • The dryer itself is actually heavy, your arm and hand will be tired after using it
  • Some of the bristles fell off the first time I used it.  Not sure how it will hold up after multiple uses
  • The low setting offers more control when first starting out

The blow dryer is currently sold out on Amazon, but it is available at Target.

As Seen On The Internet Diss List

Headbands

headbands

Seen On: The Whole Worlds Social Media Feed

Cost: Varies $10 – $50

I loved headbands as a kid, but I don’t understand them as an adult.  I’m being realistic here.  You need to style your hair and then stick this headband smack dab in the middle of your head.  It just makes no sense to me.

I can’t wear a headband in the office and wearing one on the weekend doesn’t work for me either.  It squeezes my head and hurts after about an hour.  Bottom line I think it’s a trend for the younger gals, like 25-30.  It looks cute in pictures, but in real life I don’t understand it.  It’s a trend and I’m pretty sure it will pass, but for now it’s not for me.

Ann Taylor Infinite Style

Seen On: Facebook and Instagram Sponsored Ads

Cost: $95 per month

One of the biggest disappointments I’ve had in awhile.  I signed up for this service because I love Ann Taylor clothes and the idea of having fresh clothes each month was appealing to me.  You can read more about the full service in my more detailed review here.

In the end I felt that the selection of clothing and sizes were limited.  In addition, I also felt that the “rules” around how to fill up your closet in order to get clothes were not well thought out.  What I truly hated about the service was that they charged you just for signing up.  You can’t look around and then decide with this service.  Once you sign in you are charged.  If they refine the program I may consider trying it again.

Customized Shampoos and Conditioners

Seen On: Instagram Sponsored Ads and Other Bloggers

Cost: Varies $50 – $100

I’m a hair gal, I spend most of my time and money on my hair and products.  I’ve used pretty much every shampoo under the sun and have my opinions on all.  When custom shampoos were on my feed I was instantly interested.

There are few companies out there that customize the shampoo based on your current hair and goals.  You fill out a quick survey and based on your responses they formulate a custom shampoo and conditioner for you.  I actually love this idea and concept.

In reality the product didn’t work for me.  I tried Formulate and the product fell short of what I was expecting.  It was actually too thick and wouldn’t rinse out of my hair.  However, the company was super nice and had excellent customer service.  They offered me a couple different formulas to try after tweaking it based on my feedback.

Overall I would skip the customized shampoo and conditioner and stick to accessible lines found at Target, Walgreens or Ulta.

Pantene Hair Shots

as seen on the internet

Seen On: Other Bloggers Sponsored Posts

Cost: $5

The price is right on these little beauties.  You get 3 shots for $5! This is the modern version of VO5 Hot Oil Treatment.  They provide an intense shot of conditioner for your hair.  To repair heat damage and restore your hair to a healthy shine.

They recommend using one tube per use.  You can probably get away with using half a tube for medium to short hair.  Immediately after use I noticed my hair was super smooth and easy to comb through.  However, when it dried I didn’t see much of a difference after one use.  To see any results you need to use this consistently, like every other day.

I personally didn’t see the value in this product, based on the times you need to use it and the cost.  While it is cheap you need to use it frequently.  Therefore, I would much rather pay more money for a deep conditioner I need to use less often.

So there you have it, my first ever As Seen On The Internet post.  I have to say this was a super fun post to research and write.  If you have any items you want me to review let me know in the comments below!
