I created my own IKEA hack and I’m so proud of myself! What you might not know about me is I’m super handy. I can paint, joint compound walls and put together any kids toy. Once in a while I put my handy skills to work and create my own handy hacks. My latest invention is turning the FLISAT IKEA Table into an IKEA sensory table for Lizzie.
I was on the hunt for the perfect sensory table and chairs for Lizzie. We live in a condo and space is limited, so I wanted to find a table that basically had everything on my wish list. My table wish list included:
- Small footprint
- White or Natural Wood color
- Storage
- Craft paper for coloring
- Under $100
My list seems pretty reasonable, but I also know I’m asking for a lot here. I found the IKEA FLISAT table and the only thing missing was the craft paper for coloring. The table actually exceeded my price as it was only $50, what a steal! I love that the table has storage. I bought the Trofast storage bins to put in the table. They come in multiple sizes so you can find something to fit your needs.
IKEA Sensory Table Hack
To make the IKEA FLISAT table the perfect IKEA sensory table I created my own hack to add craft paper to it. Here are the supplies you need to add a coloring station to your table.
Supplies
Tools
- Screw Driver
- Level
- Power Drill
- Pencil
Step-By-Step Directions
- Cut the wooden stick to 23 inches. Attach the white caps to the ends of the stick
- Line up the J hook on the leg of the table with enough room for the paper to clear the top of the table. The top of my J hook is 2 inches from the top of the table. Use a pencil to mark the J hook on the leg.
- Using the drill, start a small hole in the leg of the table right in the center of your pencil mark (from the step above), just enough to get the screw in.
- Screw in the screw half way
- Drill the next hole on the J hook in the leg of the table
- Screw in both screws right
- Take the level and place it on the bottom of the J Hook as it spans across the two legs. Line up the second J Hook so it is level.
- Repeat steps 1-6
- Slip the wood stick through the craft paper roll and place on the J Hooks
- Color your heart out!
And there you have it the best IKEA sensory table hack around! Lizzie was so excited that her table has paper on it now, she loves to color and I do too. Honestly I might be more into coloring right now though.
