Hi ladies! This post was created based on reader feedback on Instagram. Thank you to all who provided feedback. While I love writing pieces that I feel passionate about I also want the pieces to be useful to you. So your feedback and comments mean the world to me. You can always send me a note on here, through email (latereverafter@gmail.com) or through any of my social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and LIKEtoKNOW.it. My heart and soul goes into the blog, but I also create fresh content on the social sites so follow along there too! Without further delay, direct from the readers is my take on the Summer Capsule Wardrobe.
I don’t know about you guys, but come summer I end up finding a few favorite items and wear them to death all summer long. Sometimes, I end up buying the same t-shirt in 5 colors, yet only wear one of them on repeat. I also find a favorite dress and wear it non-stop! Essentially I create a Summer Capsule Wardrobe each year without even trying.
The summer capsule wardrobe has always been something that intimidates me. The idea of slimming down the wardrobe and just having the pieces I love is scary. While I am a quality over quantity type of gal, having a lot to stuff (even though I don’t wear it) makes me feel better. However, it’s time to rip the band-aid off and slim down the wardrobe. I did it earlier this year with my work wardrobe and made 5 outfits out of 5 pieces in my closet. End result, it was super easy, I loved all the outfits and I lived!
A summer capsule wardrobe is probably the easiest one to create. First, you can layer the items for warmth or to create different textures in your outfits. Second, you can mix dressy with casual items. Throwing on a dress with gym shoes is perfect for daytime summer activities. And finally, you can take the pieces from day to night, which is essential in the summer since you’re always on the go and want to spend as much time outside as possible.
The pieces I’ve selected for the perfect summer capsule wardrobe incorporate all of the above attributes and are reasonably priced! Getting the most bang for your buck is important with clothing. I’m going to break down each item and offer a few options along the way.
Colorful Dress
The colorful dress is perfect for a summer night out. Its light and breezy and can easily be paired with a lighter layer on cooler nights.
Jean Jacket
I don’t have to convince anyone that the jean jacket is a key piece. I’ve been wearing the same one for over 10 years. Yes, 10 years! Jean jackets literally never go out of style and the longer you have them the softer they get! This J.Crew Jacket is one that can last through the years.
Colorful Shoes
Not matter what the season you should have a bright/bold color shoe. They add a pop to any outfit and can take an all black ensemble from boring to fun in seconds. The Everlane Day Heel offers tons of options for bright colors and they are super comfy.
Grey T-Shirt
Weekends are perfect for grey t-shirts. Pick one up with a cute detail, like the tie knot tee or this peplum top and even this twist front top.
Stripe T-Shirt
Channel your inner french girl and add stripes to your wardrobe. A classic navy stripe or red stripe are great summer days. I prefer stripe tees where the white portion is more dominant.
Sleeveless Tie Front Top
This top is so versatile for summer! Pair it with jeans for a night out or jean shorts for a hot summer day. Use it as a cover-up at the beach or layer it over a dress to create additional textures in your outfit. This white one screams summer days while this blue one screams summer nights!
Straw Purse
I bought this purse this spring and was so pumped to use it all summer long. Its my most favorite purse. I also have this straw purse and use it for weddings or special occasions.
Tassel Earrings
This accessory changed my life, literally! Read about in my post here.
Pointy Toe Flats
Having a dressy pair of closed toe shoes is essential in the summer. While I love to show my toes there are sometimes that I need to cover them up. These M. Gemi flats are expensive, but 100% worth the money. They are an investment piece that will last forever. This option is more budget friendly though and just as cute.
Distressed Jeans
The new love of my life is distressed denim. I bought my very first pair earlier this year and can’t get enough of them! This was my starter pair of distressed denim and I’ve since graduated to this pair of 7 For All Mankind. 7’s are my all time favorite brand of denim, they fit like a glove!
Jean Shorts
A must have summer staple for every girl are denim shorts. They virtually are available in every price point, however I tend to go on the cheaper side when it comes to jean shorts. They last just as long as the expensive pairs and you can venture out with different washes this way. Old Navy has the best selection of jean shorts this summer. I love this pair and this pair. Find more here.
Sleeveless T-Shirt Dress
The most versatile item in my closet this summer is the t-shirt dress. Worn casually with gym shoes during the day or with colored heels at night for dinner. Layer it up with a jean jacket for cooler nights. I also own and love this one and it’s a steal at $13!!!
Tote Bag
I don’t need to sell the idea of a tote bag to anyone, so I’ll share my favorites. This Madewell Tote is durable and functional. Looking for an under $50 option, then this tote is for you.
Gym Shoes
If you’ve been following me on Instagram you know I love my All Birds. If you don’t have a pair, you need a pair. They are ultra comfy, lightweight and machine washable. I love these this pink Nike pair and this blush pair.
So there you have it, the perfect summer capsule wardrobe that has all you need to really enjoy the great weather and fun summer activities.
