Hello everyone! Today I’m featuring a brand new series I hope you all enjoy. I’m sharing what I wear to work each day. I realized the other day that I rarely share what I actually wear to work each day. I spend about 70% of my time in work clothes, so it just makes sense to highlight those outfits.
Today I am sharing the real outfits I wore last week to work. I took a quick selfie every morning before heading out the door. This gives you a look into my everyday work style. What you will notice is that I mix old and new pieces together to create timeless looks. To create a timeless look you have to start by building the basics that become your everyday essentials.
Everyday Essentials
My daily jewelry in the office and out of the office is pretty straightforward. Over the years I’ve carefully put together classic investment pieces that will stand the test of time. I don’t wear anything too flashy or trendy, unless I had a costume necklace. Here are the pieces I’ve selected.
Michele Deco Watch – I eyed this watch for years before I was able to get it. I fell in love with it when I saw it in a Nordstrom catalog and knew I had to have it. The main selling point is that you can switch out the bands. I wear it primarily with a bracelet band, however I have a black band that I wear occasionally.
The watch is an investment piece and paying a lot of money isn’t something I do on a whim. So I saved the old fashioned way, with an envelope. I’m a firm believer in saving for you want. So I created an envelope and tucked some cash away each paycheck. You can see some of my easy ways to save money in this post here . I’ve had the watch for years and know I will have it for years to come.
David Yurman Classic Cable Bracelet – This bracelet is special as it was a gift from Mike when we first started dating. My co-worker at the time was talking about getting one and I jumped on the bandwagon. You can’t get more classic than a David Yurman Classic Cable Bracelet. I must have mentioned it in passing to Mike and he was clearly listening. I treasure this bracelet and wear it every day.
Earrings – I have two classic stud earrings that I pick from each day. A set of pearls and a solid sterling silver stud. I’ve always been a stud earring gal, mostly because they are easy, don’t pull on my ear and stay in place all day.
I’ve had many pearl earrings over the years, but the pair I currently wear are a bit oversized. I picked them up at a local jeweler and paid about $300. I knew I would wear them often and was willing to pay that for a good set. You really can’t go wrong with a good set of pearl earrings. Here are great options for budget, middle of the road and splurge .
I recently upgraded my sterling silver earrings. For years I wore the classic Tiffany Bead Earring. When I turned 25 I bought them and they served me well all these years. I graduated to a pair from David Yurman. I love his pieces and the style matched my Classic Cable Bracelet.
Now let’s talk about clothes. There is no fancy photography in this post, just good old fashion selfies. I literally snapped a photo each morning before heading out the door. My work style is a mix of old and new pieces that are classic, polished and make me feel great. You will also notice that not all of my clothes are current, as some of them I’ve had for many years. I wear old pieces because when a piece is fabulous you take care of it and can wear it for years. What I’ve done is highlighted the old pieces and offered suggestions on more current versions. Here we go!
MONDAY
Tweed Blend Banana Dress (old) + Gold Statement Necklace + Nude Heel
This look is an oldie, but a goodie! I love to hang onto my classic pieces!
One of my favorite dresses in my closet is this tweed number from Banana Republic. It’s an all around classic, from the material to the shape you can’t go wrong in this. Sadly though it’s old, but I found a couple similar styles for you here and here.
My gold statement necklace is old too, but one I can’t get rid of. It wasn’t a lot of money when I purchased it, but I’ve gotten my use out of it. Similar styles can be found here (this one is like a collar and it’s elegant), here (exaggerated gold chains never go out of style) and here (this is the closest one I found to my necklace). And my shoes? Yes old too! A classic nude pump never goes out of style, such as this one and this one.
TUESDAY
Noel Dress + TOMS Sandal
This dress is new and it’s from the M.M. LaFleur Casual Collection. I’ve worn it every other week so far because I love it that much. You can read all about the dress in this post here. I would say the dress runs a tad large. I am wearing a size 10, but may have been able to size down to an 8 as the skirt isn’t a super tight pencil.
For the shoes I’m going way outside my box by wearing these to the office. For starters they are cork, something I typically don’t wear. However they are super summery and I love how they take this dress down a notch. They are also open-toe shoes. I’m breaking all my fashion rules this year and trying to not be so uptight. I think it’s working 🙂
WEDNESDAY
Everlane Jumpsuit + M.M. LaFleur Jardigan + Peep Toe Heels
I went outside the box with this outfit earlier this summer and it’s been on heavy rotation ever since. My Go Weave Jumpsuit is ideal for the office. It’s super elegant yet trendy at the same time. You can see how to wear a jumpsuit to work in this post here. The post will take you through what to pair the jumpsuit with and how to look office ready while wearing the years hottest trend.
My heels are a classic black peep toe. I’ve had them for years, but I found some current ones for you guys here. Having a black peep toe on hand is ideal as you never know when you want to show some toes.
THURSDAY
Shop One Third Jacket + Joan Top + Black Ankle Pants
I normally don’t wear pants in the summer, however it got a little cool one day so I thought I’d mix it up. I’m wearing The Joan Top from the M.M. LaFleur Casual Collection and I wrote a full post about the top here. I got it in a size medium and it runs true to size.
My black ankle pants are from J.Crew Factory and they have an elastic waist! They are amazing. Pregnant and postpartum ladies these will be your best friend when you are heading to work. They lay nicely and can be machine washed. I am wearing a size 8 and they run slightly large so you can size down if you want a tighter fit.
I’m pairing this outfit with my new One Third Jacket. It’s a brand that was created by another blogger, See (Anna) Jane. It’s cream color tweed with an oversized zipper and it fits like a dream. I took it in the large and it fits perfectly. I’m normally an 8 in blazers/jackets as a reference.
FRIDAY
Sara Dress + Gold Necklace + Black Heels
The Sara Dress was the dress that started my love for M.M. LaFleur! This is my go to when traveling for work. The material is wrinkle resistance so I can sit on a plane and get off looking completely put together. It’s also machine washable and it dries like a dream, no ironing needed. I sized up in this and got a 12. I then had a few extra darts put in the back by my tailor to make it more fitted.
My necklace is old, but a similar style can be found here and here. A simple gold necklace adds a great contrast to an all black dress. I grab this necklace when I’m wearing solid colors and it pairs nicely with my pearls.
And no I didn’t go barefoot to work I actually keep my black heels at work. 90% of the time I wear a black heel (this is my go to pair and I LOVE the day heel) and I only wear them at work, so I keep them at work. There is no sense in carting shoes back and forth. If I want to wear a different shoe with my outfit I bring it from home (in a dust bag) and bring them back.
