Spring in Chicago is the hardest season ever. One day its 70 and the next its 35. And for fun it snows at the end of April! I’ve learned a thing or two about how to dress for Spring in Chicago over the years. Most importantly I learned that classic spring basics are my best friend. These are basics that I have had for years or am planning to have for years.
Spring always ushers in new trends and bright spring colors. My suggestion is to stay away from that stuff and stick to the basics. By the time I’m ready to wear bright spring colors, its summer and I want summer clothes, not spring clothes. Having a healthy rotation of classic spring basics will have you ready for the season without being the first rose!
Basics Spring Colors
Sticking to basic spring colors will have you feeling like spring even when its still winter out. Choose colors like reds, navy, green and camel. These colors are lighter, fresh and scream spring even when its cold outside. Mixing stripes and solids will feel fresh coming off of a harsh winter season. These colors are basic enough that they can be worn in spring and fall, giving you the options and that ability to maxizine your budget. Using these colors in your wardrobe also provide options for layering and mixing and matching.
Spring Key Pieces
Green jacket
I’ve had a green jacket in my spring rotation for 20+ years, its never going out of style! I picked up the Sezane Miro Jacket to replace my 10 year old jacket this year and it’s a beauty! I’ll have this forever and enjoy that the wait is adjustable. It will grow with me over the years and give me style options. You can read my full post about it here.
Stripe Top
You see this top every spring, it’s a classic Marinier top and is French girl chic. I’ve over several over the years, but this Sezane one is built to last. The quality is top notch and it’s a gorgeous piece. I have the red, but they over four different colors and styles. You can check them all out here.
Cashmere Sweater
Chilly spring days call for lightweight cashmere. The viral $50 Quince cashmere sweater is where it’s at for spring. It’s lightweight, looks polished and comes in 16 colors! My favorite is the camel color as it works well for work and weekends and can be mixed and matched with so many other colors.
Crossbody Bag
A saddle bag is timeless and classic. I rotate my bags and in the Spring I get my Jenni Saddle Bag out and I always love it! It’s beautiful and has held up over the last 5 years. I can fit a decent amount of stuff in it and love the shape. They just released some fresh colors for spring and they are to die for! However I love my black bag that I can wear forever.
White Sneakers
It’s spring so it’s time to finally bust out the white sneakers. I updated mine this year and bought the Rebox Club C Revenge Vintage Sneaker. They have a vintage look from the 80’s and I was born in the 80’s so I needed to rock these. They are leather, comfortable and only $88. I was driven by the price and comfort of these. They actually come in over 10 colors and styles, but the soft pink had my heart!
